Bloomington is in a housing crisis. Homeownership is more difficult than ever.
The community land trust model offers a lower barrier path to home ownership, and preserves affordable housing stock at the neighborhood level, permanently.
Cooperative Housing
We also work with partners to develop resident-run rental housing, which offer an empowering, permanently affordable alternative to conventional landlords. Frameworks range from family-style apartment complexes to large collective houses.
This includes work with new organizers to support their vision, as well as collaboration and resources for existing projects.
Sustainability
We facilitate sustainable growth by empowering neighbors to take control of their housing future, ensuring development resonates with neighborhoods’ culture, history, and vision.
And we support community-informed sustainable initiatives, like neighborhood gardens, native landscaping and efficient housing design.
Our Mission
1. To promote and provide affordable housing and sustainable development for low and medium income people in Bloomington, Indiana and the surrounding area
2. To secure and stabilize housing and access to land for people who are housing insecure
3. And to prevent people from being displaced from their homes.
Our Vision
ACLT’s vision begins with developing affordable, sustainable housing, in partnership with neighborhood residents, but it extends further. We offer mentorship and substantive collaboration to empower accessible participation in Bloomington’s housing future.
Through connecting grassroots affordable housing organizers to resources, direct support, and a community of practice, ACLT acts as a resource hub in the growing movement for affordable housing in Bloomington, and the region.
